A New World Awaits You in Massively Multiplayer Online Games
How would you like to be transported out of your ordinary every day life and into a world where the impossible is considered mundane, and fantastic sights are to be expected? Well if you are one of the millions who like to shed your real life for a few hours per day and get into fantastic adventures which regularly feature dwarves, elves dragons and wizards, then you are a perfect candidate for massively multiplayer online games, or MMORPGs for short.
MMORPGs allow the every day human to experience life in a fantasy world where the limits of time, space and death have little or no meaning. Most MMORPGs feature a medieval theme, but there are also several which have a different theme. All of these games are either offered as a download or are available at a retail outlet, and then they charge a nominal monthly fee to play. Some MMORPGs are located in space, while others are based in alternate realities which closely resemble ours. Then there are the MMORPGs which are the most popular, the medieval themed games.
If you like to play games which feature both melee action and magic wielding mages, then you certainly cannot go wrong with one of the more popular medieval MMORPGs such as EverQuest 2, World of WarCraft and GuildWars. All of these games are filled with sword swinging warriors and spell flinging mages. EverQuest 2 is the next generation of the EverQuest genre, with the original still going strong. World of WarCraft is a spin off hit from the WarCraft franchise, and provides play along the same lines as the game. Guild Wars is the only one of the three which does not require a monthly fee to play at this time. There are plenty of expansions for all three of these games.
One of the first wildly popular MMORPGs which were not text based MUD style games is The Realm. Currently, The Realm was the brain child of Sierra Games, and then was taken over by Codemasters before becoming the current property of Norseman Games. The Realm is a community driven game, which is one of the reasons it is still around despite the fact it is not a 3d game as the top contenders. The Realm offers great game play, and features several classes of playable characters. If you would like a simpler game, but still have all the elements which make a great MMORPG, then you cannot go wrong with The Realm.
MMORPGs are definitely the kings of online games. They offer the players a chance to settle in for the evening with friends from around the globe to do battle against the evil hordes who would see us all meet our demise if left unchecked.
